Last updated: June 11, 2025

This course is all about flying your paraglider safely and like a pro when you’re launching from hills. Whether you want to land smoothly at the top, fly along the hills for ages, or even fly at the coast or in other countries, this course will teach you what you need to know.

We’ll learn about:

  • Getting Your Gear Just Right: Making sure your glider and harness fit perfectly for hill flying.
  • Easy Top Landings: How to land safely and exactly where you took off.
  • The Venturi Effect: Understanding how wind speeds up over hills and how it affects you.
  • Flying Smart: Knowing the best speed to fly to go far and stay up in the air.
  • Hill Clouds: What those special clouds that form near hills mean and if they’re safe.
  • Sharing Lift Nicely: The polite rules for flying in rising air (thermals) with other pilots.
  • Flying by the Sea: What’s different about flying near the coast.
  • Flying in Other Countries: Things to think about when you fly from hills abroad.
  • Staying Safe in the Air: A reminder of how to see other gliders and not bump into them, especially when lots of people are flying at a hill.

By the end of this course, you’ll understand hill flying much better and have the skills to enjoy it safely and with confidence!
